Places for Late Night Snacks

Montreal (Mar.19.07)

We try our best all week to keep the calories to a minimum, but when the weekend hits, a night of cocktails and dancing sometimes calls for some late night fuel in the form of whatever makes your fingers greasy. We’ve picked out the best restaurants for grabbing a late night snack with this week’s Best Of list. Now that’s what we call catering to the munchies.

  1. Lebanese: Boustan
    2020 Crescent St.; 514-843-3576
For late night shish taouk, the lineup is worth the wait. The vegetarian wrap is a close runner-up packed with Lebanese garlic roasted potatoes. Yum.

  2. Nachos: Café Republique
    3563 St-Laurent Blvd.; 514-277-0502
The key to good nachos is cheese and topping distribution, and Café Republik gets it right every time. Topped with chicken or beef, this snack seems to disappear before your eyes.

  3. Pizza: Madona
    3065 St-Laurent Blvd.; 514-499-1082
Huge slices big enough to share and, if you’re lucky, you might be allowed to eat it in the cab on the way home. A handful of napkins is a must. Maybe even a bib.

  4. Poutine: La Belle Province
    705 Ste-Catherine St. E.; 514-845-4113
For some, cheese curds, French fries and gravy are three different things you might find in someone’s fridge, but to a Montrealer it’s a sought-after midnight snack. Get the best of the best at La Belle.

  5. Noodles: U and Me
    1900 Ste-Catherine St. W.; 514-931-0081
Sometimes a big bowl of broth and noodles is all it takes to stabilize the alcohol content before the sun comes up. It is technically filled with water, after all.
