Jeans

Montreal (Apr.23.07)

They are a wardrobe staple. They take us from after-work drinks to perfect dinner dates (we hope!). They even have names like “good butt” and “skinny.” And while we realize they may not make the world go round, they do make us very happy (and faster to get dressed in the morning). So in ode to all things denim, this week’s Best Of list is all about where to buy your next pair of jeans…
    Jeans
  1. For the biggest selection: Stylexchange
    1500 McGill College; 514-282-6500; www.stylexchange.com
With its brand new home in Place Montreal Trust, this self-proclaimed fashion playground (which counts three other Montreal locations: Fairview Mall, Place Versailles and Rockland Centre) never disappoints. If you seek the latest in denim fashions, from Diesel and True Religion, to Rock and Republic and JBrand, they’ve got you (and your wonderful butt) covered.

  2. Best sales service: Influenc-U
    1476 St-Catherine O.; 514-931-3283
The sales team in this downtown store is so well-versed in the jeans culture they are walking billboards for the products they sell. And while you try on your selection, they gather round as your own personal shoppers, giving you good advice. With this kind of service, you’ll never buy and regret.

  3. Most likely to pick up a whole outfit: Lola & Emily
    3475 St-Laurent; 514-288-7598; www.lolaandemily.com
This lifestyle store is a unique shopping experience. You’ll walk in to buy your denim (a refreshing change from your regular brand names, here, you’ll find Swedish lines Filippa K and Denim birds) and walk out with a whole outfit—from sexy lacy underwear to a great pair of heels and accessories galore, maybe even a lipgloss! And, of course, your jeans.

  4. Most exclusive: Holt Renfrew
    1300 Sherbrooke O.; 514-842-5111
We love Holt Renfrew. We browse the aisles of beautiful clothes. We escape into a world of fashion glory. And on the 3rd floor jeans section, we spend all of our money. This is where you will find what no other place in the city can get you: Balenciaga and Marc Jacobs. And if these don’t make the cut, you’ll be drawn to the countless other denim lines to choose from, and the wonderfully spacious dressing rooms will keep you there all day.

  5. Best store atmosphere: Parasuco
    1414 Crescent; 514.284.2288
This newly renovated store will never get you huffing and puffing as you painstakingly try to decide which pair is for you. Spacious, with high ceilings and on three floors, it’s a long way from where Parasuco Salvatore started in the basement of his Montreal home. And when you finish your purchasing, don’t forget to pop upstairs at Ydem for a little mani and blow dry and you’ll be set for the night.
