Who's Been Keeping Their Resolutions?
tales from the pit: new year's resolutionscanada
(Jan.23.12)
Mia checks in on the editorial team's new year's resolutions.
We're three weeks into January, meaning gyms are starting to clear out and the cookie aisle is slowly regaining its status as the most popular in the grocery store. We started 2012 with the best of intentions, but after 21 days (the marker of breaking a habit and starting a new routine), the editorial team is fessing up and sharing their new year's resolution success stories...and – sigh – failures.
"My resolution was to set out my clothes each night so that I could get a few extra minutes of sleep and still feel put together at the office. So far, so good! This past Monday was the only day I missed doing it on account of being too tired to do much of anything Sunday night. But I’m planning on keeping it up." – Emma, Associate Editor
"After a month of partying, I decided to have a dry January. I figured I could easily uphold a resolution for a month, knowing full-well I wouldn't last a whole year. Turns out I couldn't even last two weeks. But in my defense, I was invited to a wine tasting for work...my job depended on me breaking my resolution!" – Mia, Assistant Editor
"This year I made a resolution to get more exercise, which I make every year. Just yesterday I splurged on an apartment-sized elliptical machine for myself so I can work out after my child goes to bed at night. Check back with me in a month or so and see if I’m still using it!" – Jenn, SweetMama Editor
"My New Year’s resolution was to write something every single day. It’s easy to keep up with it during the week, but on the weekends, I’ve been slacking." – Adena, Editorial Intern
"How’s this for crazy? I decided to go vegan for the month of January, and so far I’ve only slipped up twice. It’s not so bad because I make sure to treat myself often with unhealthy-yet-animal-free treats like French fries, dairy-free chocolate and lots and lots of rice cream. And the two times I caved were completely excusable – a fancy meal that was basically once-in-a-lifetime, and a killer piece of cake at my book club. I figure if the slips help me last the month, then that’s better than quitting altogether, right?" – Jes, SweetHome Editor
