When a friend asked us to bring dessert to her dinner party, we took the ambitious quasi-homemade route and busted out the muffin mix and a tub of vanilla icing. The result? Burnt bottoms and uneven domes on top. Next time we’re asked to supply the sweets, we’ll be heading out to the newly opened and ultra-chic bakeshop, The Cupcakery.
The deliciously scented store (with an equally sweet owner) serves up cupcakes that are as pretty to look at as they are enjoyable to eat, with enough icing whipped up on top to nearly double their size. Deliciously

creamy and not too sweet, it’s the perfect balance to the moist and soft (but not to the point of falling apart) cake underneath.
Flavors range from Back to Basics, a vanilla cupcake frosted with chocolate butter cream, to PB&C, a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing and a strawberry jam filling (they put the sandwich classic to shame). Sold individually ($2.50), by the half dozen ($13) or dozen ($25), the selection varies daily. And we won’t be waiting for our next dinner party to make another tasty trip – life’s too short to wait for a bite of Principessa, After Eight, Cookies & Cream, Amaretto Kisses…
