We are not morning people. So when we agree to early-Sunday brunches with friends, we advocate to keep things straightforward (quick prompt coffee service, no clumsy servers, and no crazy we-can't-pronounce-the-name dishes).
Which explains why we've become huge fans of Simply Nosh Bistro, a brand new brunch spot in High Park.
The cute 10-table café is slightly hidden from view (there's no large distinguishing sign yet) and serves some of the freshest not-so-simple tasting dishes we've had this side of the city.
There's French toast served with compote and maple syrup ($11.95), pancakes and scrambled eggs ($7.95), a goat cheese frittata with spinach ($8.50) and poached eggs served with a perfectly cooked batch of peameal bacon ($8.50). They even serve up some great grilled sandwiches (our favourite was the Portobello veggie ($7.95)).
The all-white decor is refreshing. The coffee is always fresh (and consistently refilled). The lattes served foamy. And the service is spot-on.
It all adds up to a perfectly sweet and satisfying spot for Sunday brunch.
And there’s nothing simple about finding that.
