Hotel Restaurants

Toronto (Apr.30.07)

Some like it hot, some like it cool and others, take it with a side of sex-appeal. This week, we’ve got the goods on where to go for an ultra-hip crowd, cocktails and people-watching, a killer Tandoori chicken salad, the coziest seats, sweet bites and more with our Best Of hotel restaurants list. And you don’t need to be a registered guest to check in…
    Hotel Restaurants
  1. Settle in and devour the fabulous menu: Signatures at the Hotel InterContinental
    Hotel InterContinental, 220 Bloor St. W.; 416-324-6645
Chef Joe Rabba knows how to please a woman: Sweet bites of dessert (mini cookies, chocolate dipped strawberries, truffles and more) for less than $5 each. Because after just one dish of the Four Spiced Muscovy Duck Breast with melt-in-your-mouth butternut squash and barley risotto ($30), Alberta Beef Tenderloin with Quebec foie gras served two ways ($38) or the Cumin Salt Squab with wild berry gastrique ($26), you won’t have room for much else. Luckily the newly renovated restaurant boasts comfie chairs to sink into while you digest.

  2. Sex-appeal and sushi: Doku 15 at the Cosmopolitan Hotel
    8 Colborne St.; 416-368-3658; www.doku15.com
It’s girls’ night out (or lunch) every day at Doku 15. The sleek South Asian décor brings your sexy back (even when wearing a work suit and entertaining a client), while the selection of sushi is so fresh and scrumptious you can’t imagine eating anywhere else. Share and share alike is easy with plates of innovative dim-sum like the crispy Duck-filled Wontons, gourmet sushi like hot Stuffed Clams and Asian-based Tapas ($7-$17).

  3. For an ultra-hip crowd: The Drake at The Drake Hotel
    The Drake Hotel, 1150 Queen St. W.; 416-531-5042; www.thedrakehotel.ca
Slip into a pair of jeans and three-inch heels, gather the group and saunter to The Drake. Here, you’re guaranteed to hang with the cool kids, whether you’re sitting in the restaurant ordering their signature mouth-watering steak frites ($21) or sipping on a Gibson in the attached lounge. Add funky beats and a loft-like décor into the mix and you’ll be cozying up to the crush you’ve been batting your eyelashes at from across the room in no time. Reservations are a good idea.

  4. Cocktails and Thursday night people watching: Avenue at the Four Seasons
    Four Seasons Hotel, 21 Avenue Rd.; 416- 964-0411; www.fourseasons.com/toronto
Thursday nights start with a stop at Avenue at the Four Seasons. Part bar, part restaurant, part pick-up joint with a scene to be seen in (wear your arm Gucci), this Yorkville hot spot is a must do. We adore the traditional-style Cobb Salad ($23), the Tandoori Chicken Salad with avocados, mangos and Naan bread ($23) and the Mini Beef Foie Gras Burgers with truffle mayonnaise ($20). Mouths full, sit back and soak in the sights. Conversation truly isn’t necessary.

  5. In the mood for a little ooh-la-la cuisine: Chez Victor at the Hotel Le Germain
Hotel Le Germain, 30 Mercer St.; 416-883-3431; www.hotelboutique.com
White linen covered tables, tall open ceilings and a short-listed menu touting incredible (and not so fancy as to be intimidating) French meals, mean you’re having a romantic dinner for two at Chez Victor. Ooh-la-la. The after dinner must-have cheese plate aside, this boîte’s dining includes tantalizing selections like the Organic Shetland Cod stewed with tomatoes, coco beans, fennel and olives ($28) and the Berkshire Pork Chop with pine nuts and spicy sausage.
