In The Red

We’ve tried the diet/light/healthy version of just about everything. Our conclusion: it’s never as good as the original.
Proving us wrong: Red Espresso ($15.98 for 250g).
The 100% natural beverage alternative is made from, single source South African Rooibos. The company’s patented grinding process transforms the tea into espresso-machine-ready perfection. The result is a saffron-coloured faux-espresso, complete with crema (that thin layer of foamy that is the mark of a quality brew). The uniquely rich taste might not be exactly that of its coffee cousin, but it’s equally satisfying (and we’ve done plenty of experimenting experimenting with the city’s best espressos). .
We might not get a caffeine high (it’s naturally free of the stuff), but we get a natural boost. With no additives, preservatives or colourants, a double shot has five times the antioxidants of green tea, and ten times that of regular Rooibos.
Suddenly we don’t feel guilty about our multiple daily trips to the espresso machine…
