With the summer creeping up in three months, we’re on a die-hard mission to do everything we can to cleanse our minds, bodies and spirits.
Desserts were thisclose to becoming a casualty in our clean-up crusade, but Qoola Frozen Yogurt just gave all things glucose a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Founders Warrick Chu and Jesse Yu satiate the sweet tooth at their eco-chic, West End digs by serving us fresh, non-fat, gluten-free green tea, chocolate and original frozen yogurt. Deciding between freshly cut fruit, carob chips, sliced almonds or energy-boosting bee pollen (nature’s version of Red Bull) toppings proved to be a tough task – it’s hard enough for us to choose a cocktail come Friday night.
W Qoolala (starting at $3.95) was our personal favourite, thanks to its refreshingly light hybrid of green tea fro-yo, marionberry and mochi chunks. The summer-perfect Qrush blended drink ($4.50) and the whole grain Q*Waffles (starting at $4.95) topped with fruit were very close seconds, however.
Our fro-yo treats came in compostable cups with biodegradable utensils, which we sorted into labelled bins at the end. And here’s another bonus: The Natural Yogurt Association requires 10 million cultures per gram out of frozen yogurt makers, but this fro-yo spot gives us 300 million – talk about a probiotic punch.
We’ll take the Qoola cleanse any day of the week.
