We don’t always like to talk about age (unless it’s someone telling us how good we look for ours), but when it comes to restaurants, 10 successful years is a milestone worth dwelling on.
Award-winning chef John Blakeley is celebrating Kitsilano’s Bistro Pastis’ 10th birthday by re-introducing the original 1999 menu, complete with 1999 prices, for the entire month of May (he opened May 7th). Who doesn’t love a party that tastes just like a mini trip to Paris, anyway?
We settled into a table in the inviting room (clean and airy as always) and whet our palates with the fish soup du Cap d’Antibes ($8.50) and roma tomato and goat cheese tart with onion compote ($11).
For our entrées, it was a toss-up between the sole Normande with white wine and cream sauce ($21.50) and the red wine-braised coq au vin ($19.50). Alas, we shared them both, and vowed to get the roasted Wenzel duck breast ($25) and New York steak and pommes frites ($22) next time.
Of course, to top off the celebration, all wines by the glass and bottle are also 30% off ‘til month’s end.
Forget May flowers, we’re all about the month’s menu.
