Romancing the Stone was one of our favourite films growing up (we lusted after that huge emerald, never mind Michael Douglas), so when we discovered the stone-inspired jewellery of Chris & Alix, it was a match made in heaven.
Young, bright and talented, the design duo of Christine Loertscher and Alexandra Scherzer has been creating one-of-a-kind jewellery for years, and officially united their efforts last December. They’ve recently opened their atelier-cum-boutique inside Le Chat des Artistes in Centre-Sud to showcase their entire collection.
From delicate beading to statement pieces, and using only semi-precious stones paired with sterling silver or vermeil, there is something to suit every taste and budget. We fell for the red Carnelian, Jasper and Red-Banded Agate necklace ($200) and the over-sized yellow Tagua Nuts and Mookite necklace ($265) on first sight. The elegant Turquoise, Bamboo Coral and Agate chain ($120) is also guaranteed a spot in our treasure chest.
There are bracelets ($50-95) and earrings ($15-50) to match, and they can whip up any custom-designed piece according to our preference. Plus their repair and restringing services ($8 and up) will have our own well-loved jewels ’round our necks again in no time.
It’s nice to know that life imitates art after all.
