Though it’s more likely that we would put on a mini dress than a milkmaid frock, we still appreciate the wholesome goodness of farm life (especially if it includes organic veggies, freshly churned butter and cute baby chicks).
Vancouver-based Melanie Hull – who hails from the Northern Ontario countryside – might have grown up in an environment more conducive to barns than baubles, but it didn’t stop her from creating local jewellery line, A Farmer’s Daughter.
Known for her colourfully bold feather headbands (from $32), Hull also hand-designs necklaces by combining ’70s to early ’80s-era original brass charms, chains and trinkets found at thrift shops and vintage sales. We wasted no time in scooping up her fringe necklace ($44), which comes in shades like black, white, blue and red leather, as well as her classic 1976 Peanut Love necklace ($32), which hides a handy little silver knife.
On second thought, maybe there is room in our closets for that milkmaid outfit.
