We’re no strangers to the shopping mecca that has become Alberni alley (we frequented the area even when Betsey Johnson was accompanied only by duty-free smoked salmon). So imagine our excitement when we heard about the addition of an old, more-affordable-than-Hermès friend.
Which is, of course, what m0851 is. We recall when the Montreal-based company was named Rugby North America, and though it now operates under a new moniker (symbolizing the owner’s last name and birth date), its signature luxurious leathers and timeless-chic pieces are as good as we remember.
Lucky Sweetspotters that we are, manager Kimberley Pao invited us in for a preview of what to expect – or should we say, what to buy – when doors open next week (they’re actually hoping to be ready tomorrow, so call ahead if you’re keen on a weekend spree). First, there’s the twin pocket knot bag in fern ($380) and the four pocket, dark grey raincoat ($350)—a runway-inspired, Vancouver essential made of waterproof-but-breathable rubberized cotton. Next up: Either the baby tennis bag ($240) in vanilla or the perfect sized clutch ($95) in lush red leather. And since we’ve been known to carry our lives (that is, our MacBook) around with us everywhere, the laptop bag ($390) is fantastic, especially in medium grey.
So what if we end up going home with the entire women’s section of the store? We expect nothing less from an old friend.
