While other girls were Vogueing with Madonna, we were Singin' in the Rain with Gene Kelly. And when they plastered their walls with Seventeen cover girls, we opted for classy Princess Grace of Monaco.
We still love that retro '50s and '60s techni-colour vibe, which is why we were thrilled to find Canadian manufacturer and e-tailer Tonic Living.
Their range of vintage-inspired fabrics (US$8.95 per yard) cover our home both as custom-made orders (good morning, extra-deep mattress) and "ready-to-wear" items such as cushions (US$19.95-39.95) and futon covers (retro print, meet retro university furniture; US$69.95-84.95).
We're pairing the hi-fi inspiration of Bungalow Stripe, Malibu fabric with the kitschy dancers on the Hula Hut design, and matching our '70s-era kitchen tiles with curtains in Apples & Pears or Tea Time. (It gives those yellowing counter stains an it-was-intentional feel).
Now that our home is decorated à la Grace Kelly, a Mediterranean prince can't be far behind. (Until then, we'll be cuddling up with the next best thing.)
