One-of-a-Kind

OakVancouver (Sep.16.08)

At a party, we're thrilled if we can sport an accessory that no one else is wearing. (Full disclosure: If we're going to source unusual pieces that truly reflect our personal style, we want credit - and compliments.) So imagine our glee when we discovered a line of eclectic, statement-making jewellery promising to deliver pieces that no one else in the whole world will be wearing.

Local jewellery designer Christi York has taken her "one of a few" concept (from her Bueno Style line) a step further with the one-of-a-kind Oak. York trolls shops hunting for pretty items she then hand-crafts into necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Pieces feature vintage earrings, pendants, faux pearls, buttons and even drawer pulls. Some combine new charms, clasps and chains with older pieces - creating a complementary mix of old and new.

Our must-haves include a necklace ($125) featuring escutcheons (jeweller-speak for mini coat-of-arms) and skeleton keys, and a bracelet ($85) with vintage buttons, clip-on earrings and faux pearls.

We're already dreaming about wearing them to our next soiree...  "Pardon? Oh, this bracelet? I can tell you where I got it, but it's one-of-a-kind."
