Sadly, in our family, dear ol’ nana didn’t have any pearls to pass down. (Or so the family says...)
Enter fairy godmother Teresa Smed, a Vancouver-based jewellery designer intent on giving us our own vintage adornments. Her Dotted Loop collection features many re-worked strands of pearls (and other re-fashioned pieces) now available at Boutik and Oasis Spa.
Each one-of-a-kind piece combines old-fashioned sophistication with rock-star glam (think Jackie O meets Mr. T).
The sexy necklaces, earrings and bracelets are made from various styles of gold chains, and incorporate both faux and real pearls. Our favourite is the quintuple-stringed Stranded necklace ($980), made from genuine pearls, classic chains and 1920’s antique crystal.
On the more affordable end, we love the Ball and Chain necklace ($180), with its rope chain and faux drop pearls.
So much sexier than anything our granny ever wore.
