Fries with That
girl about t.o. Toronto
(Aug.27.09)
I've never met a root vegetable I didn't love.
Mashed turnip, baked sweet potatoes, roasted parsnips and new potatoes were our staple Thanksgiving trimmings but lately I've adopted an adaptation.
Sweet Potato Fries.
If they're on a menu, I can't avoid ordering them. (Even if I'm not hungry, know my quota of fried food is maxed out or that they're not even that good in the particular place.)
They trump reason. Every time.
In Toronto, I have a few staple spots where I don't even need to open the other options.
- Fresh
Sure, the grease soaks through the napkin but at least they look like they were cut that day. And it's easy to order something else healthy.
- Hemingways
A pub through and through. Give into the indulgence and have with a beer.
- Shanghai Cowgirl
For even the latest of cravings.
- The Pour House
OK, I'll stop just mentioning pubs I frequent.
- My Kitchen
Just kidding, everyone knows I don't cook (though Sarah is inspiring)
- Victory Cafe
I know I said no more pubs, but A) I live a block away, B) they really are good (especially on the patio) and C) though many chefs offer delicious fries, they're often not sweet potato specific (Jamie Kennedy, I'm looking at you).

It's a good thing that one of my closest friends has the same affliction.
I think.
What about you - is there something you always order when you see it?
