Story Behind the Sweat
girl about t.o. canada

We told you Torontonians about Circuit 60 at Track Fitness yesterday, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to tell you my extended take on this hour-long sweat session.
1. It's hard. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely doable (thanks self-controlled treadmill settings) but be prepared to work. (Enough that I'm wondering if my usual workouts aren't tough enough.)
2. It's sweaty. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Sometimes I forget to do this on a run but I was definitely grateful for my full litre of water (and the chance to take a 2-second break for a sip).
3. It's drawstring-required. I started my jog in cute little shorts but before the first 10 minutes was up I was trying to coordinate tying them tighter without whipping off the treadmill.
4. It requires no rhythm. Take it from the girl doing jumping jacks in an aerobics class when everyone else is sliding through grapevine. If you can put one foot in front of another and lift and lunge, you're good to go.
5. It's hard. OK, maybe I let my fitness routine fade a little over patio season. Welcome back post-exercise endorphins.
6. It's loud. No need for an iPod here, speakers surround you and someone else makes sure you're entertained.
7. It's next to a bagel spot. Be warned (I may have spent Sunday afternoon in bed with cream cheese, lox and weekend papers).
8. It's unisex. Our group was about half guys - and no, I don't look cute in my bun, bobby pins and blood-rushed pale face.
9. It's hard. Maybe that's just me?
Regardless of where you live, staying active is something I find so easy to let slip. A missed workout here, an after-work drink there and suddenly I'm using my sweats for well, watching TV. Sometimes all it takes it shaking things up. For me it was a new class that I could do with a friend who's not at my gym but sometimes it might mean getting up a littler earlier to walk to work or committing to something outdoors each week.
As long as it doesn't take more than an hour.
