About Ashleigh McKenna
After first subscribing to sweetspot.ca to get to know her new city, Ashleigh McKenna now gets to help find the sweet stuff worth sharing as Editor and General Manager. Go behind the scenes from favourite manicure spots to product sneak peeks and more.
My sweet tooth is easily unparalleled.
(In times of stress I've even been known to dip a spoonful of peanut butter into brown sugar. Gross, I know.)
But I've never thought of turning my sugar fixation into an empire. Luckily Dylan Lauren (yep, Ralph's daughter), did and NY-based Dylan's Candy Bar was born.
Lauren was in town the other week to launch Canadian sales at Holts and I got to catch up with her (and her candy). The packaging is cute, the treats are tasty (though the National Post raises an interesting question about Canadian vs. American cravings) and it really does seem to make gift giving easy.
Time Capsules will catapult anyone back to a decade with its in-demand sweets, afternoon meetings were made better with the Everything but the Kitchen Sink bar and the Assorted Chocolate Squares practically don't need wrapping thanks to the bright pops of colour. (OK, maybe I'm just lazy when it comes to wrapping.)
Plus to add some indulgence without the calories (though the chocolate is worth it), there are even Re-Treat bath and body products for something sinful in scent only.
We also got the bubbly (even during a swamped day of media appointments) founder to share a few of her Sweetest Things:
Smooth spotting: Birthday Cake Batter sugar scrub
Snack spotting: Marshmallow Fluff
Gear spotting: Running sneakers
Glow spotting: Bobbi Brown #4 bronzer
Scenic spotting: Central Park
Must-have spotting: Her friends
Good mood spotting: Pop music to run to (and pumping up Janet Jackson)
How sweet it is.
