A Love Struck Sneak Peek

girl about t.o. canada (Dec.30.09)

If you had the chance to make yourself over in the image of your husband's mistress, would you?

That's the main question behind Love Struck, (our very own) Chantel Simmons's second novel that's on pre-sale now and hitting shelves in February 2010.

Recently, I got to attend a sneak peek launch event (at the lovely Dove Spa in Toronto) and then spent the weekend powering through my advance copy (which I'd tell you even if Chantel wasn't my boss).

27-year-old image consultant, Poppy Ross, awkwardly overhears of her husband's affair but on her way to confront the cheater in question, she gets a call that he's been struck by lightning, is in the hospital and has lost his short-term memory (yep, including the torrid tryst).

In her quest to save her marriage, Poppy starts straying from her usual style and instead begins to make herself over in the image of his (dare I say, tartier) mistress. With hilarious, well-intentioned but awkwardly-executed results.

Questions range from how far would you go to save your marriage to what changes are worth making for the one you love (and whether they even want you to) in a story that you won't want to stop. (And for book clubs, Chantel's personal site conveniently has a discussion list.)

Although our main question here in the office was: Chantel, where did you find the time to write?!
