Parties with Purpose

girl about t.o. canada (Feb.03.10)

Combining a good time with a good cause is the kind of win-win situation that's easy to get behind.

Since next week marks the start of some such events that come highly recommended, I thought I'd share a list looking at what's on my radar.

Just make sure to wear heels you can still walk in at the end of the night. (Trust me.)

Heartbeats for Africa, Feb. 13 ($30)
An art show, silent auction and party with all (hopefully $15,000) funds going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation that was started by two sisters in 2008 (one of whom is our friend, and SweetLife contributor, Alison Lawler-Dean).
The Starlight Club, Feb. 20 ($100)
A new addition of a party after the gala dinner in support of the Starlight Children's Foundation. Walk into old Hollywood glamour, enjoy some cocktails, bid on auction items, enter to win a car and dance the night away while contributing to the dreams of sick children.
ROM Prom V: Noir, March 27 (from $125)
One I haven't attended (but have always heard good things) - this annual party by the ROM Young Patrons Circle raises funds for museum programming and is hosted by MTV's Dan and Jessi for this year's dark dress code theme.
Others often on my radar; 2010 dates tbd:
Innovators' Ball, usually April
Another post-dinner party to help raise money to send families to the Ontario Science Centre. This year's theme hasn't been set yet (last year was Femme Fatale), but I've always had fun. (Even if, as aforementioned, I killed my feet in the process.)
  Rethink Romp, around June
Sweetspot.ca has sponsored this event in the past and gotten to participate first-hand in the annual romp for Rethink Breast Cancer. Auctions, entertainment and an annually changing theme are all part of the fun.
  Boobyball, held in October
Another one I've written about attending (and created by our Society Syndicate bloggers) in support of Rethink Breast Cancer. In '09 we cruised (complete with partiers in sailor suits), karaoke'd and called it a night (a very late night).
