Do You Talk and Drive?
girl about t.o. canada
(Feb.24.10)

When I first started to drive I would shut off the stereo (and shush any passengers) anytime I had to shift into reverse.
(I could also only drive stick barefoot, but that's another story.)
Needless to say, I've since become more comfortable but how much of a good thing is too much? (Especially given February was the first month of enforcement for the Ontario law banning driving with hand-held phones.)
I like to think I'm a safe, aware and defensive driver but then, doesn't everybody? Eyes on the road is paramount but if you hear a message come in and you're stopped at a light, have you ever reached over and looked (let alone replied)?
If my car time is going to be condensed, I've been keeping my phone in my purse and my purse on the back seat knowing that anything incoming can wait until I'm parked. It just isn't worth the risk (on a much bigger level than just a $155 ticket).
But what about longer stretches behind the wheel? Is talking alone too much of a distraction or how do you feel about hands-free?
I've been plugging in a headset in order to answer an incoming call but find it cumbersome and am bouncing around bluetooth options (that have a little style of course).
And yes, I can now wear shoes without stalling.
