Do You Wash Your Face Before Bed?

girl about t.o. canada (Mar.31.10)

As you saw in today's new SweetTV video, I've recently learned the tricks to applying flawless foundation. (Seriously, using a brush makes a world of difference.)

But what's the secret to remembering to take it off every night?

Don't worry, washing my face is definitely a habit (and on make-up free days too), but between wearing a fuller face for SweetLife @ LG Fashion Week and the late nights that come with it, I can't say it's well, so fully ingrained.

I have friends who refuse to let their head hit the pillow without first washing, toning and moisturizing (with some eye cream applications in there too). And while I wish I could say I was the same, I'm still a little patchy in my skincare routine.

Here's what I've found that helps:
  • In plain view: When I kept my cleanser in the medicine cabinet, it was easy to ignore at night. Now it's next to my toothbrush and can't be missed.
  • Backup plan: Sure it's a stretch, but when I'm just so tired I head straight to bed, now there are a pack of face wipes on my nightstand as a last-ditch reminder to (quickly) wipe off my makeup and let my skin breathe.
  • Results: Getting on a routine that actually delivers results adds incentive to keep it up. I thought my parched skin was destined to be super-dry but recently experienced a face mapping from Dermalogica that has pointed me in a much better direction. (There's a speedy online version too for addressing your own skin concerns.)
So now I'm using the right products (in the right combination) for my skin, and truly have seen a change. (And while it might sound counter-intuitive, I think a big part for me was actually adding the Precleanse oil. I know it's an extra step, but it's so easy to slap on, smells great and really gets through the gunk and now it feels like when I apply my moisturizer, it's really sinking in like never before.

I'm inspired to keep up my routine (though can't lie and say some nights aren't still a struggle).

But I still haven't adopted eye cream.

What about you - is nightly make-up removal a must or a hope-it-happens?
