Knapsack Know-How

girl about t.o. canada (Jul.14.10)

Back in Grade 9 I arbitrarily decided I no longer wanted to wear a backpack. (I'm not sure my friends and I ever wore them on more than one shoulder anyway.)

And in the intervening years, I haven't looked back. But I have continued to cart around more and more stuff on a single shoulder.

A few visits to the chiropractor later and some massages that have been more pain than pleasure and I'm starting to rethink my carry-it-all strategy. Turns out, back pain -- in addition to hangovers and an interest in kitchen appliances -- comes with age. So, can I bring myself to strap back into a backpack? I think spreading out the load would help so I took a look around to see what's out there.

An obvious first step would be for athletic purposes and a gym bag:

Lululemon Cruiser ($88), Stella McCartney Adidas Urbs ($80 on sale, also featured in today's Getting Dressed Guide), Nike ACG Steel City II (US $88)

Then there are the ones trying to combine pretty with practical:

J Crew Rumpled Sateen backpack (US $138), Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Knapsack (US $158),BDG Coated Canvas (US $58)

Leather and canvas provide a more classic rucksack feel:
Ecote Canvas (US $68),Topshop small leather rucksack (£40), ASOS Floral rucksack (US $59)
Jas MB Box rucksack (US $565), Bolu leather convertible backpack ($318), Roots saddle pack ($238)

Or, is it simply a matter of leaving the house with less stuff?
