Air Necessities
girl about t.o. canada
(Aug.04.10)
Every August I head back east for a taste of summer vacation (and lobster). (Today's Air Travel Getting Dressed Guide couldn't have come at a better time.)
So while packing shouldn't be a problem (going to our cottage is supposed to be low-key after all), it does have me thinking about my plane must-haves and the carry-on essentials I can't live without.
Here are some of the things I like to have on hand.

Travel-sized beauty products
It's important to keep skin hydrated in the air, plus these cut down on suitcase space. This Dermalogica Sensitized Skin Kit ($50) holds my favourite products, the clear zippered bag passes security and I keep it in my gym bag the rest of the time. There's also always filling your own small-sized bottles if you don't want to double up (and these lug clearview envelopes would finish a custom kit nicely).

Gadgets
I'm currently really interested in the iPad (who isn't?) for its ability to house books, music, movies, photos, interesting apps and games like scrabble, sudoku and boggle all in one place. I've also been known to attempt upping my Nintendo DS Brain Age, read an e-book or just listen to my iPod and read an airport kiosk paperback.

Headphones
I don't have these Bose Noise Cancelling headphones (nor do I travel enough to justify them) but I have played with a friend's and swear the difference in audible background noise was discernible (especially powerful on smaller propeller planes). Sometimes you just want to zone out and plain ol' headphones definitely help.

Travel wallet
I'm an organizational geek so it's no surprise I like keeping all of my travel docs in one place (and easily accessible to grab inside my bag). This Danier travel wallet ($29) not only has interior tabs to separate things like a boarding pass and passport, but it also looks particularly cute in the process.

Cosy socks
For longer flights I like to stave off cold feet (while still wearing the sandals that I want to) with cosy socks, like mine here from Roots. Tossing a clean pair into my carry-on means I'm guaranteed to be comfortable in the AC even when travelling in warm weather and full shoes just don't make sense (OK, though maybe not pulled up to my knees). |
What about you - what's always in your travel bag?
