Do You Wear New Things Right Away?

girl about t.o.: shopping and waiting to wear canada (Jul.01.11)

This week I got a few compliments on a white watch I was wearing (similar to this Michael Kors one).

The compliment was quickly followed with, "is it new?"

And then I'd explain that no, not really, I'd been given it a couple months ago, and was just waiting for the right time to wear it (the recent sunny, summery days seemed like a good time to break out the white accessory). Reactions made me realize there are two kinds of shoppers among us:

Those who wear new things right away. And those who, as I say, let things acclimatize a little before wearing in regular rotation.

I am definitely the latter. Always have been (to the bewilderment of many, including my mother, who has been known to wear something new right out of a store and only take a bag to bring home whatever she walked in wearing).

It's not that I'm contemplating returning the clothing in question, or even trying to figure out what to wear it with. I've always just taken a little while to naturally reach for something new that wasn't for a special occasion, even if just a day.

Then, once I'm picturing something new with everything else in my closet when deciding what to wear, it feels more natural to reach for an item for the first time.

I can't be the only one, right? Right? Let me know: do you wait to wear something new?
