Desperately Seeking Dessert

girl about t.o. Toronto (Mar.26.09)

I posted yesterday about a dessert I would eat again in a second - the milk chocolate bar at the Drake.

True, people who know me well might not think it such a worthy distinction (I'm hardly shy about my sweet tooth), but it actually got me thinking about my eating out habits in this city.

It seems, I rarely have dessert.

I'm usually powerless to resist mid-day cookies, or morning timbits, homemade treats around the office (from the people who know how to cook) or really, almost anything sweet. But when it comes to restaurants I just realized I've been neglecting an entire section on most menus.

I was reminded of this again on Tuesday night when a friend arranged a dinner at Kultura (and those donut holes we were obsessed with were brought out. They're still worth mentioning).

Two desserts out and about in the last two weeks (and in both cases it was someone else in charge of the menu), but before that I couldn't tell you the last time I've ordered something at the end of my meal besides coffee. Maybe it's that given the choice, I'll usually pick a quick sushi dinner with friends (and just haven't developed the taste for green tea ice cream). Or that my sweet tooth is highly linked to snacking? Or maybe I just fill up on my meal?

But now I'm wondering what I'm missing. Is dessert really the best part of dinner (as I'm sure I thought when I was five)?

What are your favourite places for dessert in Toronto? After a meal or on its own - log in and let me know.
