Patio Picking
girl about t.o. Toronto
(Apr.30.09)
We can't seem to stop talking about spring.
Flowers keep popping up around the office (even if I'm an 'other' in the sense of some of us are better at keeping them alive than others), ballet flats are back, bare legs are next and every day seems like the perfect day to go sit on a patio.
Even the torrential downpour of Tuesday morning ended in a pretty sunny day. (And we all know "pretty sunny" is more than enough of an excuse to eat and drink outside.)
So the question is no longer when but, where?
Personally, I seem to subscribe to the patio of convenience theory. Where there is an outdoor pint of beer available, I will be.
At home this means the Victory Cafe or Paupers roof. After work, we seem to end up in Yorkville (but maybe that's because we're just trying to find a way to work the wireless at Hemmingways into our work day). Or meeting in a friend's 'hood could mean Rebel House or a weekend brunch at Caffe Doria (it's not all about alcohol of course).
Sure, I might be missing out on some of the best patio spots in the city but when you're combining convenience, good company and a laid-back environment, it's almost impossible to go wrong.
I'm always happy to try somewhere new but this usually comes from agreeing to meet somebody already out. Our 2007 Best Of Secret Patios in the city has some great inspiration (I've been to three of those places but only on the patio of one) too but if there's anywhere you think is a can't miss, I'm sure everyone would appreciate the tip.
Now if only it was easier to read a laptop screen with a glare.
