Sweet Milestones
girl about t.o. Toronto
(Jun.04.09)
You've probably heard we're getting a little older.
Our family has grown over the years (and grown. and grown) and our Who We Are page is certainly taking longer to scroll. Sweetspot is turning 5 and we're definitely not shy about admitting our age.
Tonight's the big party (you're coming, right?) and it definitely deserves a celebration. I met Joanna Track back when Sweetspot hadn't yet hit one.
I was new to the city to do a little more school and someone had already sent me the sweet (then Toronto-only) site to help me acclimatize to my new home. Every day, a new newsletter would arrive alerting me to something else to check out. (I'm still hooked on Gee Beauty. And lust after Smythe, which also just turned 5 and thanked JT/Sweetspot at its party for the first email about them that resulted in a 60% sell-through rate in one weekend at Holts.)
When I heard she was looking for interns, I jumped at the chance to write more than just the straight news we were still covering at school. It'd be easy to say the rest was just history but of course, things rarely work out in a straight line. But I always kept in touch and when I was back in Toronto after graduating (and finishing a short-term contract somewhere else), the timing was finally right and I landed a full-time job (Sam, I can relate!).
I still use Sweetspot as a resource for finding the best spots in the city, just now the tables have turned and I get to be behind the scenes on the team figuring out what to send out. Plus, with our new cities, web features, blogs and sister sweet sites, we're bringing more than ever before.
So while my kitchen skills haven't improved enough to bake a cake (though if I did I'd want to use The Great Cupcake Pan from Williams Sonoma), I'll definitely be celebrating the occasion.
And maybe sending a few someecards.
Thought that was sweet? You'll enjoy:
