In my ideal world, I would read books all day. At the spa. Between treatments.
Sadly, my ideal world is not my reality, but a few days ago, I got a little taste of that life when I was invited to Dove Spa to meet best-selling author Jane Green and have the treatment of my choice.
I love Jane Green. I mean, until the event, I'd never actually met her, but I've devoured every single one of her novels. A few months ago, my agent had given me her entire library and told me to read them. "This is someone you should aspire to be like." Sadly, what I realized when I received Dune Road (the
book she was in Toronto to promote), was that it's her 13th book in 13 years. Not only that, but Jane has four children and two stepchildren. Which means I'm officially two years and one Brady Bunch family behind schedule. Oh well.
If Dune Road, the story of a single mother who works for a famous author in a tiny Connecticut beach town, is anything like Green's other dozen novels, it's bound to be funny, thoughtful and engaging -- just like Jane herself, I discovered when I met her. In any case, it's next on my summer reading list (check back next week for my roundup of rainy day reads).
After the event was over, I stepped inside one of the candle-lit treatment rooms for my Detox Body Treatment. The esthetician gave me a choice of two scrubs: chocolate to hydrate or mocha to reduce cellulite.
I'd like to meet the client that chooses to hydrate. I mean, seriously, I can drink a glass of water for that.
After settling into the heated bed, the esthetician used the mocha scrub all over my entire body. Then, she applied the detoxifying mud and wrapped me in plastic so that the ingredients could work their magic, while she gave me a mini facial using the Dove professional products. After an hour, she unwrapped me and bundled me into a robe, then led me to a shower room where I rinsed off the mud, put on a fresh robe and slippers and returned to the heated bed for the final step. Again, I had a choice: hydrating or firming body cream. I don't think I have to tell you which moisturizer I chose.
I left the spa so relaxed, happy, and with the softest skin I've had in years. Who needs success when you can have a spa treatment and a good book to read?
