Fashion Fails

After reading Sweetmama Editor Nadine's blog on grossest lunches our parents packed us, I started thinking about my most memorable back-to-school fashion mistakes.
Like in Grade 4, when, after complaining to my mom how I hated wearing my sister's hand-me-downs, she sewed me a pair of turquoise courduroy overalls. I was obsessed with them. Unfortunately, she'd secured the sides with Velcro, so everytime I sat down, they split open, revealing my underwear to the class. I didn't want to hurt her feelings though, so I never told her, and instead, just made sure to wear super-long T-shirts underneath.
Thankfully I'm not alone in my fashion tales (and fails):
Perhaps too inspired by The Baby-Sitters Club, in Grade 4 I coordinated what I thought was my fashion masterpiece: black-and-white checked tank top, black denim shorts (rolled at the knee), black-and-white checkered Keds, black-and-white headband and dangly black three-tiered peace sign earrings. -- Ashleigh McKenna
Snap bracelets! -- Danielle Barranca
Grade 3: T-shirt with vest print and actual buttons sewn onto the shirt. Grade 4: Multi-coloured tie-dyed, BeDazzled T-shirt. Grade 10: A Winnie-the-Pooh childrens baby T-shirt that barely covered my non-existent chest. -- Monica Lapa
This gem was reserved for my first semi-formal of Grade 9: floral baby doll dress, purple tights and 10-hole black Doc Martens (with neon-coloured laces). -- Ashley Bennion
Neon everything! Yellow neon leggings with a green neon baggy off-the-shoulder sweatshirt, yellow neon Elita and a pink neon headband. I was so Punky Brewster. -- Sari Little

Heeled Converse and a stuffed animal mini backpack -- and yes, I was over the age of 12. (But everyone in Clueless had them!) -- Carina Holtby
