My husband and I were married on January 12. We thought it would help make the drab, depressing, cold, post-holiday month fun, and it does, but it also means that I can't leave thinking of the gift until after the holidays, so I'm starting to think about it now.
Before our first anniversary, I suggested to my husband that we do the traditional anniversary gifts. He said he didn't like that idea. I was disappointed, but didn't push it. Still, since my husband loves cheese, I decided to get him a book on cheese pairings -- which also fell under the Year 1 traditional theme: paper. (He tricked me by surprising me with his own "paper" gift -- personalized stationery -- securing his spot as best husband ever)
Year 2: Cotton. I gifted him with two Canali dress shirts since he wears a suit to work every day.
Year 3: Leather. I gave him a Cole Haan wallet filled with gift cards to his favourite stores (HMV, Freshii, Booster Juice, Rogers Video).
Year 4: Fruit & Flowers. This one was tricky. I figured he probably didn't want a fruit basket. Instead, I organized a catered dinner by personal chef Chadd Arthur who created a fruit-and-flower-themed menu.
Which brings us to Year 5: Wood. Does anyone have any ideas (perhaps something somewhat recession-friendly) that don't involve me actually giving him a pile of wood chips?
