Looking Coy in Elroy
eco-friendlyVancouver
(Aug.14.07)
With all the eco-friendly yoga and workout apparel and handbags out there, you’d think we’d have chic, animal- and earth-conscious clothing to wear when not practicing downward facing dog. But can we really call ourselves fashion-forward friends of the environment?
Not until we’ve donned something by Elroy Apparel, the brainchild of Vancouver’s Leanne McElroy of Underdaaks (purveyor of sensual-yet-comfy lingerie) fame.
A dedicated vegan, McElroy was named Designer of the Year at the Helen Lefeaux fashion school, and judging from the edgy, utilitarian-chic designs of her first collection, we can see why. We can always use a new coat come colder weather, and the light grey, hip-length Hyssop trench ($198) with buttoned, cinched waist is perfect, especially when worn over the black, cap-sleeved, stand-up collar Sage top ($84) or bubble-hem Amaryliss dress ($130). And in case the weather takes a (typical) sudden turn and you’re left drenched, switch to the navy three-quarter sleeve Azalea blazer ($205) with brazil nut buttons.
Just remember to take it off before getting into the warrior pose.
