How can I dress warmly but still be fashionable during the winter?

During the winter months, it IS possible to be stylish and "put together" without looking like a puffy polar bear.
Here are some guidelines:
Go for the lean look by layering. The obvious choice for cold winter weather is grabbing a chunky wool knit sweater. However, if you're a city slicker (and not on the ski slopes) opt for a sleeker look by wearing finer knits, but layered. For example, silk long underwear (comes in black, white and sometimes stylish patterns) can be snuck in as your first layer. They retain your body temperature and permit you to wear one to two more layers over top. So unless your skinny jeans are painted on, you can fit the silk long johns underneath too. Trust me, you'll be toasty warm and nobody will think you've put on extra Xmas "bulk".
Cover the extremities! We all love the puffy winter coats. However, you don't HAVE to go the puffy route to stay warm. Look for a more tailored cloth or sheerling coat-but keep the lid ON! That means, wear the hood provided. Plus, wearing a fashion hat is the ideal way to look glam and warm-all at the same time.
Secret stash. Keep an extra blazer or long sweater-coat in your office. That way the to and fro to the office becomes less of a fashion faux pas, as you don't have to worry about peek-a-boo-jackets killing the coat line.
For footwear remember to leave your furry-foot-friends for outdoor wear and ice rinks, NOT the office. I suggest having an extra pair of "indoor" shoes, pumps or sleek boots in the office.
In the event of snowstorms and blizzards...anything goes. The boss will just be happy you showed up (in whatever "Michelin-Man" Puff Outfit you desire)!
