Ariel, Jasmine and Leia had their troubles (being controlled by a sea witch, falling in love with a street rat and fighting the evil forces of Darth Vader, to name a few), but being a princess surely has its perks (any excuse to wear a tiara is a good one). Thanks to Westmount's newest tween-friendly boutique, the four-to-12 year-old set can now live out their wildest princess dreams. Mademoiselle Pinki is part girly gift store, part party planner. We (even in our much advanced years) love the Kissy Fit lipgloss-making kits ($25) and of course the countless sparkly princess accessories and outfits - all located on the endless shelves of gifts for little girls at the front of the shop.
Scoot around behind the pink curtain draped at the back of the store and, presto, a magical kingdom awaits. Here, parents can choose to hold a themed birthday party (from princess for little ones to pop star or fashion show for the tweenaged group), complete with costumes, invitations, balloons, karaoke machine and sundae bar. We were even tempted to try out the party room's mini backstage primping area and hobbit-sized stage. Standard party packages are $30 per child, but extras, such as loot bags, a professional photographer or limo service, can also be thrown in for additional fees.
