White Fashion

canada (Sep.03.07)

If rules were meant to be broken, then committing fashion crimes must be in vogue…Now that Labour Day has come and gone, brashly boasting an all-white look is sure to turn heads (especially those of the fashion police). Double-up on this outdated faux-pas by breaking the style rules in our labour day whites…

Clemintine tunic
Crime: Dressing too young. Turn up for a party (or playtime) in a ribbon-tied tunic. Be careful not to spill any of the “grown-up grape juice” – a merlot stain would ruin this creamy look.

Clemintine tunic by Dace, $146. Available online at www.shopdace.com

Trapeze jacket
Crime: Breaking out of business casual. Suited up for the job doesn’t require a matching top and bottom. Re-interpret the nine-to-five dress code with a different kind of jacket.

Trapeze jacket by Smythe, $625; Holt Renfrew. www.smythelesvestes.com

Graysona shoe
Crime: White shoes. Our mother always told us, “White shoes are for nurses and tennis courts,” but even she won’t be able to resist strutting down Main Street in these pale leather booties.

Graysona shoe, $120. Aldo, www.aldoshoes.com

Ruffle shirt
Crime: Over-the-top retro. Act the Ski School extra, inspired by a ruffled turtleneck that defines modest sex appeal.

Ruffle shirt by Pink Tartan, $225. Holt Renfrew.

Coat
Crime: Covering up. Wrapped up in wool leaves what lies underneath, as well as fall chill, to the imagination.

Coat by BCBG Max Azria, US$318. www.bcbg.com

clutch
Crime: Leaving the lipstick at home. Ditch the carry-on sized purse, and pare down to the absolute essentials while carrying around a sleek, buckled clutch.

Sutton clutch by Michael Kors, US$395. www.michaelkors.com; 972-556-6083

Blouse
Crime: Prairie wear. We’re not talking about the prairie skirt of yester-trend, but rather the buttoned-down look of a bread-baking, hay-bailer. Pair this flowy blouse with favourite jeans to harvest a great look.

Blouse, $59.90. H&M. www.hm.com
