Spotted among the silk-screened pillows and homemade preserves at the One of a Kind show, we (naturally) fell hard for sweet polished dresses.
My Mom Made That just launched with the show meaning Toronto-based Nancy Rosa’s dresses are hot off the presses (the ironing presses) and perfect for spring. Each one is unique, made from new, vintage fabric (no worry of wearing the same frock as someone else to a spring soiree).
The launch collection features just two styles – Elora, a loose T-shirt shape that’s sold with a belt, and Drayton, a nipped-waist, ’60s shift style with pleated tulip skirt that’s extremely flattering (both $160).
The dresses are made from 100% unused vintage fabrics and buttons found at rummage sales, small town fabric shops and thrift stores (she even cleaned out a 97-year old Yorkville seamstress’s fabric cupboard). Nancy likes the vibrant look and fine quality of vintage fabrics (plus the environmental advantage of using materials already here on earth).
What’s in a name? Nancy was often telling people “my mom made that” in reference to her fabulous wardrobe. Finally, mom and daughter paired up to produce this exclusive line so now we can wear their styles too.
We’ll be sporting the blue floral shift to an upcoming shower and can’t wait to answer: “Nancy’s mom made that!”
