Where to eat:
We have a secret stop for authentic fare: Krasares family restaurant (1 Krasares, Kissonerga, just off Coral Bay highway) is a tiny gem hidden in the banana plantations outside the village of Kissonerga. Perhaps the only place in the world to serve halloumi-stuffed kalamari ($21).

Zorbas bakery is a popular Cypriot-chain serving up treats so good you’ll be stuffing your luggage with baked goods (starting at $2). Order a tachinopita (a tahini pie) and koupas (a type of meatball made with beef or lamb and cracked wheat).

What to do:
Swim and sunset-worship at Petra Tou Romiou – legend has it that it’s Arphrodite’s exact birthplace. The Troodos mountains are great for a day of wine tasting; we love Tsiakkas Winery, a family-run estate that provides a yummy picnic service to go with its reds, whites and rosés.
