Around our office we call him the biking baker dude.
No matter how you say it, Aviv Fried bakes some of the best bread we’ve ever scarfed, and with Bread for CODE, he delivers it directly to our desk.
A biomedical engineer by trade, Fried started indulging his passion for artisan organic breads and quickly developed a following. Now, just a few months later, he delivers to more than 130 people.
Here’s how it works: sign up for his mailing list to start getting Wednesday bread-of-the-week updates. He bakes 50-70 loaves Monday mornings, using the ovens at The Cookbook Co. Cooks, entirely by hand, no mixer (that’s dedication).
He then delivers the bread on his bike to people living or working in the downtown core. (Also available Wednesdays at the Hillhurst Sunnyside Farmers’ Market.)
The $6-per-loaf breads run the gamut from simple Country Bread to exquisite Roasted Potato and Rosemary blends. Recently, Aviv joined with Chef Mike Soucy on a Recession Package ($12) – bread plus a homemade paté or spread (like a Light Rye with Smoked Salmon Paté).
Plus all of the profits to date have gone to charity.
No better reason to indulge in some tasty carbs.
