They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Whoever says that hasn’t lunched at Ca’puccini.
This tiny sandwich stand on the edge of Olympic Plaza serves gourmet paninis and freshly-baked pastries from its mother restaurant, Teatro, that grand old dame of Calgary’s Italian dining scene.
Set in an old newspaper kiosk (very Charles Dickens-esque), Ca’puccini offers a few small tables overlooking the park, and a menu of both savouries and sweets. Piping hot paninis ($6.90) and salads ($4.50) make the perfect lunch combo, and desserts like sticky cinnamon buns ($2.50) and banana focaccia ($2.50) help us blissfully forget thinking about being bikini-ready.
We happily noshed al fresco on a warm Spicy Tuna Panini (made with fresh tuna, strong mozzarella and hints of green onion and celery), and couldn’t help but sample the Grilled Vegetable Panini—a combo of peppers and eggplant set onto a bed of sundried tomato pesto.
Sadly, the seasonal kiosk will close at summer’s end, which means for the next two months, lunch is priority uno.
