In the summer, having gotten used to all the Havaianas and board shorts that permeate our streets, we often forget how swanky our city can actually be.
However, this momentary lapse in memory isn’t for long, thanks to the Glowbal Group.
Filled to the brim with a see-and-be-seen crowd, Coast Restaurant recently relocated from Yaletown to a grand, 7,000-square-foot space amidst high-end boutiques like Hermès and Ports 1961. We wouldn’t chance coming here without a reservation—but if you must, at least there’s also the new, adjacent O Lounge.
After finally being seated, we sampled Executive Chef Josh Wolfe’s Dungeness crab and spinach dip ($12), buttermilk battered calamari ($12) and—a twist on a Canadian classic—the lobster poutine ($15).
For our mains, we couldn’t decide between an Ocean Wise fish (think salmon, halibut, sable fish, B.C. cod or arctic char), so we ended up supplementing our seafood with a perfectly cooked 28-ounce bone in rib ($49 for two people). Dessert consisted of the raspberry lime tart ($8) and the dessert sampler ($14) of chocolate peanut butter and jelly bars and Tahitian vanilla cheesecake lollipops.
Yet another reason to kick off the Havaianas and slip on the heels.
