The Victorian era is upon us (and we’re not talking about Brits or royalty).
First came Victoria Park, the unique lifestyle concept – and now the wellness empire brings us Vic Market.
As the less inconspicuous of the two, with its street-front location near Sherbrooke Street West (Victoria Park is hidden next door in an unmarked building), Vic Market aims to complete the healthy living philosophy with the introduction of a gourmet health food store.
In conjunction with the folks from Dragon’s Kitchen catering, the shop offers healthy gourmet meals, treats and ingredients (like a beautiful jar of peeled Pomodoro tomatoes, $7.15), with an emphasis on organic. Following a gruelling workout upstairs, we sought out a delicious and nutritious lunch in the area that didn’t involve a chopped salad (not to fret; they do carry this Westmount staple).
We opted instead for the soup du jour, a refreshing cold beet and cucumber soup ($4) and splurged (calorie-wise) on a pulled pork sandwich ($8.50) with caramelized onion and aged cheddar. With little time to prepare a healthy dinner that night, we picked up some soy-cured organic Irish salmon ($4.50/100g) from the meals-to-go options.
The Victorian age is back, and tastier than ever (long may it reign).
