What’s our favourite breakfast place?
Hint #1: It’s Also Known As our new go-to spot for casual drinks and dinner.
Hint #2: It’s Also Known As the latest venture from those guys behind Muse and Kensington Wine Bar.
The answer is AKA Wine Bar.
Set in a century-old building on Edmonton Trail, this cozy eatery dishes up very creative bistro fare, as well as a weekend breakfast and a full slate of microbeers and wine.
We discovered the newly-opened AKA as we wandered through Renfrew in search of dinner. With its door propped open, the spot formerly housing Noon Bistro wooed us in with strong smells of roasting garlic and the clinking of wine glasses.
We dug into a delicious confit chicken leg ($17), a crispy grilled caesar salad with fried anchovies ($11) and heavenly lamb-stuffed olives ($7), while chatting away with chef and co-owner Cam Dobranski (of the Canadian gold medal winning team at world Culinary Olympics several years back).
With dinner so good, we returned two days later for breakfast. We devoured every morsel of the eggs benedict ($12) – perfectly poached eggs on a pork belly sausage and slice of brioche, all topped with creamy hollandaise.
Also Known As bliss.
