We’ve been very patient with the ongoing revival of downtown Granville Street. Yes, good things take time, but that hasn’t stopped our hungry stomachs from grumbling while we wait.
A rose among thorns, the always-packed Edge Social Grille & Lounge is quickly becoming a ’hood favourite.
This new resto-bar, designed by Nigel Walker & Associates, is modern and roomy, plus the enormous 80-seat patio is set far enough off the main drag for us to feel nice and secluded from a rambunctious weekend street crowd. And though it’s located in the Chateau Granville Best Western, The Edge definitely feels like a stand-alone restaurant.
We ordered the loaded chopped chicken cobb salad ($14), which was crispy fresh and came with some tasty, unexpected add-ons (think oven-dried tomatoes and pepper jack cheese). And the stone oven flatbread -- otherwise known as free-form pizza -- came in a variety of toppings, but it was the Okanagan goat cheese, asparagus, wild mushrooms and caramelized onions flatbread ($14) that had us dreaming of Tuscany (and not Tinseltown).
See? Patience is indeed a virtue.
