It’s not for calorie counters, or the faint of heart. Instead, grab your foodie friends looking for a satisfying, lick-your-lips kind of a meal.
Which is exactly what we did at the recently opened Praga Cafe, a charming little restaurant off of MacLeod Trail, specializing in food from the Czech Republic.
While the restaurant offers other Canadian and European favourites, we decided to sample true Czech goodies, and we weren’t disappointed.
We started off with the Schnitzel ($10) - breaded pork or chicken, fried to a golden crisp (and perfectly crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside) - though the Mozarella Schnitzel ($10) was certainly tempting.
We had other delicacies to try, namely the famed Svickova ($12), the most traditional of Czech recipes. Thinly sliced beef in a sweet cream sauce served over steamed Czech dumplings. And as we soaked up the last bit of sauce with our very last morsel of fluffy dumpling, we paid no heed to the gym visit this meal would most definitely mandate.
Instead, we made a date to come back next week and try the Goulash and Alberta’s largest selection of imported Czech beers.
Cheers. (Or should we say na zdravi!)
