When it comes to dining out, our temperament could be described as multiple-personality. One minute we’re in the mood for brunch (bring on the bagels); the other, it’s sangria and tapas. Oh, and maybe we’ll get that to go…
Discovering Amalgame, a restaurant that offers all that and more, sent us for a loop. Originally a catering company, the success of the past 18 months led to the recent opening of the all-in-one café (fair-trade coffees and teas), takeout counter (with family-sized options) and bistro (cocktails and couches are a dangerous mix).
We dug into a plate of Nachos ($10) dripping with olives, cheese and spicy peppers, and fresh guacamole and salsa on the side. The tender crust of the Numero 3 Pizza ($9) was loaded with zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli and bocconcini and the VéGé Panini is definitely next on our to-try list ($11). Tip: Dishes come with fries or salad, but ask for half and half. We then debated between a generous slice of Carrot Cake ($4) or Chocolate Mousse ($4) to go.
“From our kitchen to your table” is their motto, but with everything we want now under one roof, we’ve already made ourselves at home.
