Sometimes a new business is so organic to a neighbourhood, you can’t believe it hasn’t been there for years.
Small, sunlit café Le Boui-Boui just opened, but it’s already acting like a Montreal mainstay. The entire place is an ode to what locals do best – recycle, reuse and refurbish. The chairs are collected from the city’s curbs, the used kitchen equipment was bought online, and everything else is made from building materials headed for the skip.
To top it off, almost everything on the brief menu of fair trade coffee, soup and grilled cheese ($9 for all three) was made or bought locally, including meat from the butcher down the street.
No wonder we felt right at home.
