Eating Underground
house of commonsToronto
(Jan.19.10)
It's easy to be a fan of underground (parking, TTC, the PATH).
Now, with House of Commons, the latest off-the-grid eating option in the city, it's not just about avoiding the chill.
Fashioned after the speakeasys of Prohibition, diners enter a downtown homey location (specifics, including a password, revealed upon reservation) for a dinner or Sunday brunch prepared by chefs from around the city ($50-$120 prix fixe). We test drove a delicious multi-course dinner ($70 including two cocktails) and sat around a harvest table with friends (and friends-to-be). From the roasted-to-perfection meats (from great local butchers) to the garlic polenta and blueberry crumble, we were, well, humbled.
Open sesame.
