Montreal is often compared to stylish cities like London and Paris.
Eating at Dominion Square Taverne is like visiting both (with a touch of New York for good measure).
The pub’s been fully restored to its 1920s namesake, and it’s clear the owners (including Barmacie’s Alexandre Baldwin) are fans of Jean-Georges’ Manhattan hotspot Pastis.
The food is simple – beet salad ($8), salmon gravlax with buckwheat pancakes ($10), sticky toffee pudding ($8). But what stands out is the décor – speakeasy meets upscale British pub with impeccable details, from art deco lamps to shoeshine footstools, all with mellow jazz playing in the background.
Sipping on an old-fashioned cocktail ($8-12; we love the Gin Julep), our trip through time (and style) was complete.
