Annex-ed In

Akai Japanese & Korean RestaurantToronto (Feb.16.10)

Bloor may have its stretch known as the Maki Mile, but Harbord is about to give its neighbour to the north a run for its money.

Akai, a new Japanese and Korean spot has opened for lunch and dinner and is definitely doing something right.

We strayed from our usual Bloor street staples (knowing the prices were a smidge steeper, but hearing that it's worth it) for a taste. Our sashimi salad ($10) had some spicy sauce kick (perfectly complemented with a side of brown rice, $3) and the rainbow roll ($10) deliciously emphasized its fresh fish. The akai special roll ($18) is worth the splurge to share for its guacamole sauce alone.

Welcome to the neighbourhood.
