With the Olympics over, we’ve hit a city-wide depression.
No better time, then, to test out Oru, that opened just before the big O.
Named for the Japanese word that means, loosely, “to fold,” the MGB-designed restaurant features a 180-foot long origami light sculpture by Joseph Wu in an easy, comfortable atmosphere.
The menu is meant for sharing and is inspired, appropriately, by Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, China, and India—all with a west coast twist. Examples? BC albacore tuna tataki ($12) and Pemberton beef brisket pho ($15) are good ones.
We also love the tandoori-roasted spot prawns ($14) and organic peking duck ($23), served with steamed buns and a homemade hoisin-plum sauce.
Bye-bye, depression; hello, food.
